What it is

A digital kitchen scale built around a measuring jug: pour the flour, the sugar or the milk straight in and read the weight, with no separate bowl to find. It weighs up to 5 kg in steps of 1 g, for recipes where the proportions have to be exact, and shows grams, ounces or millilitres.

The clear plastic jug holds 1.2 litres, carries a scale in millilitres and ounces, and lifts off the round base for filling and washing — by hand: neither the jug nor the base goes in the dishwasher. The white LED display sits in a panel that folds out of the base and stays hidden until it lights up. The tare button sets the jug back to zero between one ingredient and the next, the scale switches itself off after two minutes, and non-slip feet keep it in place on the counter.

It is black, small enough to put away in a cupboard, and runs on two AAA batteries, which are not included.
